FAQs for Visitors/Guests

Why should I attend church? I’m spiritual, not religious.

God is present everywhere and always. Worship at church helps us refocus our attention to God’s presence and grace in our lives, in the community and in the world around us. The church community supports our spiritual life during good times and bad. At church we learn about the spiritual skills and attitudes that open us to the mystery and wonder of God. At church we are connected to the wisdom of generations of Christians. We come because life is difficult. We come because life is beautiful. We come in gratitude. We come for community.

Why the Episcopal Church?

Welcoming. Compassionate engagement. Respectful questioning. Hospitality. As Episcopalians, we are free to wrestle with the real stuff of life, the hard questions of faith as we struggle to practice what we preach in the context of a complex and changing world. We are open to new revelation as we worship God in the context of the Eucharist and service to others in the name of Jesus Christ. Liturgy is the work of the people and our worship is at the heart of all we do. We express it through the Book of Common Prayer and music both ancient and contemporary. We are part of the Episcopal Church in Colorado and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

We are a Christian community with love and compassion for everyone.

What happens on Sunday?

Our congregation meets in a beautiful contemporary sanctuary with pews and stained glass windows. Our order of worship is fairly traditional. The weekly worship bulletin provides complete details of the service making it easy for guests to follow along. Although there are some minor exceptions, our tradition is that we sit to listen, stand to sing, and kneel to pray.

St. Aidan’s services typically have music and a choir. Our services feature interesting, biblically-based sermons with relevance for modern life.

Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist, is offered at our Sunday services. Everyone is welcome to come forward to stand or kneel at the communion rail. All baptized Christians may receive the bread and wine. Others may show their desire to receive a blessing by crossing their arms and placing their hands on their shoulders.

We have a staffed nursery for our youngest members. An usher or greeter will be happy to provide you with directions. If you prefer, you are more than welcome to keep your children with you during worship. All volunteers and paid staff who work with children have passed background checks.

Although a plate is passed for offerings during each service, no one is required to contribute money. Giving is an act of thanksgiving. Giving to the church is a result of a person’s response to God’s presence in their life. Contributions to the plate make all of programs and ministries at St. Aidan’s possible.

A fellowship coffee hour is held after each worship service and is a wonderful to meet others and build relationships.

We hope that you will feel welcome and at home. Please feel free to sit wherever you like. There is no dress code, wear what is comfortable.
